The 2026 MLS season begins on February 21st. There will be a full 34 game schedule played with the regular season ending on November 7th. There will be a six-week break from May 25th to July 16th to accommodate the 2026 World Cup that is being hosted in North America.
The Leagues Cup tournament will still be taking place this year, but it will be scheduled for after the World Cup. Phase One will being on August 4th with the Leagues Cup Final scheduled for September 6th.
MLS is continuing to grow in Canada. Major League Soccer Betting Options
The two most common MLS bets are the money line (to win) and total goals. Below I will look at the examples of both types of bet using the Vancouver Whitecaps season opening match vs Real Salt Lake.
Money Line (1×2)
The money line odds are also commonly referred to as the “to win”, “match result”, or “1X2” odds in soccer. With this wager you are simply betting on the outcome of the match. The outcome can be Team A winning, Team B winning, or a draw.
In this example Vancouver is the favourite to win the match. A $160 bet on Vancouver would win $100 (payout $260) if they win the game. A $100 bet on a draw would win $310 (pay $410) and a $100 bet on Real Salt Lake would win $360 (payout $460).
Total Goals (Over/Under)
Total goals bets, also known as over/under, are the second most popular bets on MLS matches. The oddsmaker will set a “total” and you can bet on whether the number of goals scored by both teams in the match will be over or under that number.
