The 2021 MLS season is set to begin on April 16th. This is a little bit later than the normal season start time of late February/early March, but MLS teams are still expected to play a full 34 game schedule this year, with the MLS Cup Playoffs scheduled to begin on November 19th and the MLS Cup Final expected to be played on December 11th.
MLS is continuing to grow in Canada. There are currently three Canadian teams in Major League Soccer (Toronto FC, CF Montreal, Vancouver Whitecaps FC) and with TSN broadcasting several MLS matches every week, I expect the league to take another step forward here in Canada.
On this page I will recommend our top rated betting site for Canadians, look at the two most popular MLS match betting options (with examples) and finish with a simple 3 step guide you can follow to get your MLS bets placed online.

Major League Soccer Betting Options
The three most common MLS bets are the money line (to win) and total goals. Below I will look at the examples of both types of bet using the CF Montreal vs Toronto FC match from the first weekend of the 2021 regular season.
Money Line (1×2)
The money line odds are also commonly referred to as the “to win” or “1X2” odds in soccer. With this wager you are simply betting on the outcome of the match. The outcome can be Team A winning, Team B winning, or a draw.
In this example Toronto FC is the favourite to win the match. A $100 bet on Toronto FC would payout $194 (win $94) if they win the game. A $100 bet on a draw would payout $350 and a $100 bet on Montreal would payout $334.
Total Goals (Over/Under)
Total goals bets, also known as over/under, are the second most popular bets on MLS matches. The oddsmaker will set a “total” and you can bet on whether the number of goals scored by both teams in the match will be over or under that number.
In this example SIA has set an over/under total of 2.5 goals in the Toronto vs Montreal game. If 3 or more goals are scored the over bets would payout, while if 2 or fewer goals are scored the under bets payout.
