How To Bet On MLS From Canada

By Soccer

The 2023 MLS season begins on February 25th. There will be a full 34 game schedule played with the regular season ending on October 21st and the MLS Cup Final scheduled for December 9th.

The regular season will pause from July 21st to August 19th, during which a month-long Leagues Cup tournament will take place featuring all of the teams from the MLS and Liga MX.

MLS is continuing to grow in Canada. There are currently three Canadian teams in Major League Soccer (Toronto FC, CF Montreal, Vancouver Whitecaps FC) and with TSN broadcasting several MLS matches featuring Canadian teams throughout the season, and Canadian fans having access to every MLS game through the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, I expect the league to take another step forward here in Canada.

On this page I will recommend our top rated betting site for Canadians, look at the two most popular MLS match betting options (with examples) and finish with a simple 3 step guide you can follow to get your MLS bets placed online.

Major League Soccer Betting Options

The two most common MLS bets are the money line (to win) and total goals. Below I will look at the examples of both types of bet using Toronto FC’s opening match of the 2023 regular season vs DC United.

Money Line (1×2)

The money line odds are also commonly referred to as the “to win” or “1X2” odds in soccer. With this wager you are simply betting on the outcome of the match. The outcome can be Team A winning, Team B winning, or a draw.

In this example Toronto FC is the underdog in DC. A $100 bet on Toronto FC would payout $283 (win $183) if they win the game. A $100 bet on a draw would payout $341 and a $100 bet on DC United would payout $231.

Total Goals (Over/Under)

Total goals bets, also known as over/under, are the second most popular bets on MLS matches. The oddsmaker will set a “total” and you can bet on whether the number of goals scored by both teams in the match will be over or under that number.

In this example SIA has set an over/under total of 2.5 goals in the Toronto FC vs DC United game. If 3 or more goals are scored the over bets would payout, while if 2 or fewer goals are scored the under bets payout.
