The 2017-18 NFL season is currently underway, but I still wanted to get this page up explaining how to bet on the NFL from here in Canada. On this page I will take a look at the current Super Bowl odds for NFL futures betting, break down the three main bets you can make on an NFL game and provide a simple 3 step guide to get your bets in quickly at our top rated betting site for Canadians.
2018 Super Bowl Betting Odds
Here’s a screenshot from SportsInteraction.com with the Super Bowl odds half way through the 2017-18 season:
I included the 12 teams with 25/1 or better odds at this point in the season. The Eagles are favourites to win the Super Bowl, but as usual, the Patriots are right there as co-favourites.
Typical NFL Betting Options
There are three bets that get the vast majority of action in an NFL game. Those include the point spread, money line and over/under (aka Total). Below I’ll take a look at an upcoming NFL game and explain each of these main three betting options. Here’s a screenshot of a game between Cleveland and Detroit taken from SportsInteraction.com.
In this example, the Lions are 11.5 point favourites, which is shown by the -11.5 as their point spread. This means that they must win the game by 12 or more points for a point spread bet on Detroit to pay out winnings. On the flip side the Browns are +11.5 underdogs. If the Browns either win the game outright or lose by 11 or fewer points then a spread bet on the Browns would be a winner.
Spread bets generally carry odds of 1.91, which is the case in this example. That means a $100 bet on either outcome would win $91 ($191 payout). Check out our betting odds info page if you don’t know how to read the decimal odds shown.
In some cases the point spread will be an even number (without the .5). For example, if the spread was 10 points and the Lions won by the exact spread of 10 then the bet would be a “push” and your wager would be refunded.
The money line bet is a straight up wager on which team will win the game outright. The odds indicate the payout of a win for either team with the underdog having a larger potential payout than a bet on the favourite.
In this example the Browns have odds of 5.80 to win the game, which means a $100 bet would payout $580 if Cleveland pulled off the upset. On the flip side a $100 bet would only pay out $115 if the Lions did what is expected and win this game.
The over/under is a wager on the total number of points to be scored in the football game, by both teams combined. The over/under in this game is set at 44. If 45 or more points are scored in the game then bets on the over would payout, while if 43 or fewer points are scored then the under would pay out. If exactly 44 points are scored then the over/under bets would “push” and wagers would be refunded.
Check out our football betting page for a further breakdown of each of these NFL wagers.

On the NFL page you will see the odds for all of that weeks NFL games. When you find what you want to bet on, make your selection, and it will show up on your ‘Bet Card’ on the right side of your screen. After you enter your wager amount the ‘Bet Payout’ will show up so that you can see how much you would win if your selection is correct. If everything looks good, click ‘Place Bet’ and your wager will be confirmed.
