There are three main bets that take the majority of MLB betting action. These are the moneyline, over/under and run line bets. These three bets are prominently shown for each game at Sports Interaction and I will quickly break each down with examples below.

Money Line
With the money line you are simply betting on which team will win the game. The odds will indicate your risk vs reward for betting on either team, with betting on the favourite paying out less than betting on the underdog.
Here’s an example using a Toronto Blue Jays home game against the Texas Rangers:
In this example the Blue Jays were the home favourites. A $100 wager on the Blue Jays to win outright paid out $165 (100*1.65), while a $100 bet on the Rangers would have paid $225 (100*2.25).

Over/Under
The over/under, also known as the totals, is a bet on the total number of runs to be scored in the game. The oddsmaker sets a “total” and you can bet on whether the number of runs in the game will be over or under that number.
Let’s look at that same Blue Jays vs Rangers game:
The over/under for this game is set at 8 runs. If 9 or more runs are scored by both teams combined the “over” bets would payout. If 7 or fewer runs are scored then the “under” bets would payout. Because the total here is a whole number, if exactly 8 runs are scored the bet is graded as a push and your stake is returned.
Run Line
The run line is basically the “point spread” in the MLB, except that it is always set at 1.5 runs. The team favored to win will have a run line of (-1.5) which means they would have to win the game by 2 or more runs for their run line bets to payout. The underdogs would have a run line of (+1.5), which means they would have to either win the game outright or lose by 1 run.
In this example, the Blue Jays are favoured as shown by the -1.5 run line, while the Rangers are the underdogs at +1.5. A $100 bet on the Rangers run line would pay $159 if they won the game outright or lost by exactly 1 run. A $100 bet on the Blue Jays run line would pay $240 if they won by 2 or more runs.
