GGG and Canelo will finally be back in the ring for their rematch almost a year to the day of their controversial first fight from 2017. Golovkin vs Alvarez 2 will take place on September 15th at T-Mobile Arena. These are two of the best pound for pound boxers in the world, both looking for some resolution after their first fight ended in a controversial draw last year.
The first fight was controversial because most fans and critics scored the fight for GGG, but one of the judges at ringside gave the nod to Canelo with an indefensible 118-110 scorecard. Another judge scored the fight 115-113 for GGG and the third judge scored it a draw, so split draw was the final result. There was plenty of controversy following the scoring and a rematch was quickly booked for March, but then in January, Canelo tested positive for PED’s and was suspended for 6 months.
There are plenty of story lines and scores to be settled heading into this rematch. I’m expecting the hype to really pick up before the fight and plenty of bets to be placed.
