How To Bet On The World Cup from Canada

By Soccer

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is here, with Canada, Mexico, and the United States sharing the hosting duties. The tournament will take place from June 11th to July 19th. The 2026 World Cup will be the first expanded tournament, with 48 nations competing in the World Cup tournament, compared to 32 in recent World Cups. This means there will be 12 groups of 4 teams, with the top 2 in each group, and 8 best 3rd place finishers, advancing to the knockout stage, which will begin as a round of 32.

Canada received an automatic entry into the 2026 World Cup as co-hosts of the tournament. Canada did qualify for the 2022 World Cup for the first time since 1986, but had a rough tournament losing all three games. Team Canada has the squad to compete on the world stage and are actually heavily favoured to at least advance to the knockout stage this time around.

Toronto and Vancouver are the two Canadian host cities for the 2026 World Cup. Team Canada will play their first group stage game at BMO Field in Toronto on June 12th vs Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then the next two group stage games at BC Place in Vancouver (June 18th vs Qatar and June 24th vs Switzerland). In total, Toronto will host 6 games (5 group stage + 1 round of 32) and Vancouver will host 7 games (5 group stage, 1 round of 32, 1 round of 16).

The World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world every four years. It captures the imagination of people from across the globe, and with Canada co-hosting the 2026 World Cup it should generate even more excitement and wagering here in Canada than usual.  For this reason I wanted to create this page and provide a simple 3 step guide for any Canadians interested in placing World Cup bets, as well as break down some of the betting options you have.

Fun Fact: The World Cup garners more than double the interest in Canada than the Super Bowl according to Google Trends.

World Cup Betting Options

Before getting into the steps to place your World Cup bet online, let’s first take a look at the different bets you can make on the tournament.

Individual Match Betting

Let’s take a look at the odds for Canada’s first match of the 2026 World Cup vs Bosnia & Herzegovina as an example of the bets you can make on a World Cup match (odds below from June 11th – the day before the game):

  • Match Result – Also known as the money line or 1×2, this is simply a bet on the outcome of the match. The odds determine the potential payout for each outcome. In the above example Canada is the favourite to win the game. A $100 bet on Canada would payout $183 (win $83) if they won the game. Bosnia & Herzegovina is the underdog with odds of 4.40. A $100 bet on Bosnia & Herzegovina would payout $440 (win $340) if they pulled off the upset in this first match. A draw has odds of 3.50 so a $100 bet on a tie would payout $350 (win $250).
  • Over/Under – Also known as total goals, this is a bet on the number of goals scored in the match. The oddsmaker sets a total (in this case 2.5) and you can bet on whether the number of goals scored by both teams will be over or under that amount.

Check out our soccer betting page for more in depth examples of the bets you can make on a World Cup soccer match.

The main futures wager you can make on the 2026 World Cup, is wagering on which team will win the tournament.  Below are the odds for which nation will win the 2026 World Cup the morning the tournament starts (odds taken June 11th, 2026 – the day the tournament begins).  This futures wager will be available leading up to and throughout the tournament.  The odds will vary depending on the perceived chances of each nation to win the tournament.
