How To Bet On The UFC From Canada

By MMA

The UFC is the preeminent MMA promotion in the world.  The UFC brand has become synonymous with professional MMA and I would bet that a lot of casual MMA fans wouldn’t even be able to name another promotion.

The UFC has earned their spot atop the professional MMA landscape building transcendent superstars in the sport such as Conor McGregor, Jon Jones, and Canada’s very own Georges St-Pierre. The UFC continues to put together great fights and fight cards, while building the sport across the world.

Over my time covering sports betting, I’ve noticed that UFC fights really bring out the bettor in sports fans.  There’s something about two guys getting locked in a cage together and being able to bet on the fights winner that really appeals to people.  Because of the number of new Canadian players who make their first online bet on a UFC fight, I wanted to create this page.

On this page I will outline our #1 recommended sportsbook for Canadians looking to bet on a UFC fight and touch on some of the different bets you can make on a fight (with examples).  At the bottom of the page I will provide a simple 3 step guide you can follow to quickly and easily get your bets placed on the upcoming UFC fights online.

SportsInteraction.com is our top rated betting site for wagering on UFC fights.  They offer fair odds and a wide variety of betting options for each fight.  I’ll provide examples of some of the bets they offer with screenshots below.

Popular UFC Betting Options

Most people just want to bet one who will win the fight, but there are several other bets you can make on a UFC fight including round totals, round props, method of victory props and more.  I’ll touch on a few with examples below.

To Win Fight

When you go to the UFC section of the sportsbook (MMA -> Mixed Martial Arts at SportsInteraction.com) the odds to win each fight will be displayed.  You will have to click on a specific fight to see the other betting options that we will get into more below.

When betting on who will win the fight all you need is for that fighter to have their hand raised at the end of the fight.  Whether that win is a knockout, submission, decision or DQ, it doesn’t matter as long as your fighter gets the W next to his name after the fight.

Here’s an example of how the odds look at Sports Interaction from the Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane heavyweight title fight at UFC 285:

In this example, Jon Jones is a 1.50 favourite to win the fight.  A $100 bet on Jones pays out $150 if he wins, while a $100 bet on Gane pays out $255 if he pulls off the upset.

You can see you can click the title of the fight to see all of the other bets you can make on this fight.

Round Totals (Over/Under)

With the total rounds prop you are wagering on how long the fight will last.  Here’s an example from the above fight:

The over/under for the fight is set at 4.5 rounds.  If you bet $100 on the under at odds of 2.00 and there is finish before the 2:30 mark of the 5th round, then you would receive a payout of $200. If the fight gets past the 2:30 mark of round 5 then over bets would payout ($100 pays $180).

**The .5 does mean half way through the round.  So the only way this bet could be a push is if the fight ended with exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds left in the 5th round.

Method Of Victory Props

The method of victory props are my favourite UFC bets.  With this prop you bet on exactly how the fight will end, whether it be one fighter to win by decision, KO/TKO, submission, any finishing method, etc.

Here’s an example of the method of victory props from the Jones vs Gane fight at UFC 285:

The most likely result is Jones to win by decision. A $100 bet on Jones to win via decision pays $295. If you think Jones will finish the fight then it would make sense to bet on Jones by knockout at odds of 4.65 or Jones by submission at odds of 7.75.

Gane is the underdog in the fight, and similar to Jones his most likely path to victory according to the oddsmakers is to win by decision. A $100 bet on Gane to win by decision would pay $410. If you think Gane could use his heavyweight experience to catch Jones with a knockout in Jon Jones’ first heavyweight fight, then you may see value in the Gane by KO, TKO, DQ at odds of 6.40.

I find you can get an edge betting on this type of prop on an MMA fight, especially if you have a clear idea of how the fight will play out.

The other popular UFC prop bet is round betting.  With round betting you bet on a certain fighter to finish the fight in a specific round.
