The 2025 British Open will take place this week at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland. The Open Championship will be the final major of the 2025 golf season. This years tournament is the 153rd Open Championship and it will be the third time the tournament is held at Royal Portrush.
Scottie Scheffler is the favourite heading into the tournament having won 3 tournaments this year, including the PGA Championship in May. He’s the undisputed #1 golfer in the world, and is the deserved favourite. Rory McIlroy is the second favourite after completing his career Grand Slam by winning the Masters in April, and rediscovering his A-game with a second place finish at the Scottish Open last week. Jon Rahm is the third favourite before the odds lengthen to DeChambeau, Aberg, Lowry, Hatton, Fleetwood, and Schauffele.

Scottie Scheffler is the favourite entering the tournament. As I mentioned above he’s won 3 tournaments this year, and he’s still playing great golf entering The Open having finished in the top 10 in his last 10 tournaments dating back to mid March.
My favourite play this week is Cam Smith at odds of 100-1. He hasn’t had his best stuff this year, with decent but unremarkable results on the LIV Tour and having missed the cut at the previous three majors, but if he does find his A-game he’s one of the best in the world. Smith won this tournament in 2022 and I think at odds of 100-1 he’s a great value darkhorse.
