Katie’s Grace is the 6/5 morning line favourite after winning the Bison City Stakes and missing by only a neck in her turf debut in the 1 1/4 mile Wonder Where Stakes, and the filly gets a three-pound weight break from the males. Buium, the 2/1 second choice, is still a maiden but was beaten just three-quarters of a length in the Prince of Wales and is a deep closer with three thirds from four turf starts, though a moderate pace in a six-horse field could leave him with too much to do. Bond Market, at 8/1, is the value play as the only runner unbeaten on grass, having beaten Buium on Woodbine’s inner turf in July before a sixth in the King’s Plate on Tapeta, while 7/2 shot Keepmypowderdry has yet to race on turf.
Twelve furlongs on turf is a trip few three-year-olds have tackled, so stamina is often a guess. Lean on proven turf form and pedigree over main track results, and in a small field, cheap exacta and trifecta boxes around your top two or three picks can pay well if a price horse sneaks into the frame.
