The Belmont Stakes is the grand finale of horse racing’s Triple Crown and, dating back to 1867, the oldest of the three legs. It runs after the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, and while it rarely matches the Derby for pure hype, it has a long history of throwing up the most dramatic finish of the spring.
There’s no Triple Crown on the line in 2026. Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo sat out the Preakness, so a sweep was already off the table before Belmont week began. The Belmont draws its loudest hype in the years a horse has a shot at the Triple Crown. There’s no such storyline this time around, but the race makes up for it with depth. The field is stacked with Derby and Preakness runners meeting again and several serious contenders. It will be a great race and one of the better betting opportunities of the spring, Triple Crown or not.
The race draws plenty of eyes north of the border, and every June many Canadians are looking to place a bet on the race. If that sounds like you, this guide covers the essentials: where Canadians can bet the race, a look at the 2026 field and odds, and a quick walkthrough for getting your first wager down.
Bet365 is the sportsbook we point Canadians to first for the Belmont Stakes.
If you’re betting from outside Ontario, Bet365.com takes fixed-odds wagers on the Belmont winner along with each-way bets and the usual spread of horse racing markets. With fixed odds the price you take is the price you keep, so a late flood of money on the favourite won’t shorten your number the way it can inside a pari-mutuel pool.
Ontario players have a different setup. Bet365.ca is the only regulated Ontario sportsbook that lets you bet the Belmont Stakes, a result of its partnership with Woodbine Entertainment. Wagers made in the province run through Woodbine’s pari-mutuel tote (the same pool used trackside) under Woodbine’s federal pari-mutuel licence, and you’ll spot an “Operated by Woodbine Entertainment Group” tag in the horse racing lobby confirming everything is above board. No other Ontario-licensed app puts up a market on the race.
Wherever you are in the country, Bet365 carries the complete menu of Belmont bet types, from straight win, place and show tickets to exactas, trifectas and beyond, plus a live stream of the race in the app once you’ve got a runner in the gate.
2026 Belmont Stakes Odds
The 158th Belmont Stakes runs this Saturday, June 6th, at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York, with the gates set to open at 7:04pm ET. The image below shows the current 2026 Belmont winner market at Bet365. Prices keep moving all the way to post, so check Bet365’s Horse Racing section for the live numbers before you commit.
Leading up to race day you will find the fixed winner odds on the ‘Horse Racing’ page by selecting ‘Antepost’ followed by ‘Belmont Stakes’ under the ‘International NRNB’ heading.
Here are the fixed winner odds from June 3rd, 2026:
**On Race Day you will be able to find the full variety of betting options for the race on the Horse Racing page. Open ‘Meetings’ from the top menu, scroll to Saratoga under the ‘North America’ heading, and pick out the Belmont Stakes. The race will also be listed under the Top Races shortcut if you’d rather jump straight to it.
Renegade heads the market as the 2026 favourite. He chased home the winner in second at the Kentucky Derby after stringing together victories in the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs and the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, and he is comfortably the most reliable form horse in the field. Chief Wallabee sits just behind him off a fourth-place run at Churchill Downs. The wildcard is Golden Tempo: the Kentucky Derby winner skipped the Preakness entirely to save himself for this spot, and a win here would hand him two of the three Triple Crown races. Commandment, sent off as the Derby favourite before fading to seventh, is the runner with a point to prove.
Saratoga is nicknamed the “Graveyard of Champions” for the long list of stars it has tripped up over the years, so leaning too hard on the favourite is rarely a safe play here. It helps that this year’s Belmont is run at a mile and a quarter rather than the classic mile and a half, which dials back the old stamina test and lets the Derby form lines carry over far more cleanly than a normal Belmont would.
